Rapid digital transformation happening in food supply

COVID-19 has accelerated digital transformation of the food production chain across the globe.

It has highlighted the need for better digital technologies and data capture across the supply chain, to keep it safe and productive. Companies are turning their attention to this and many have greatly accelerated their investments in digital transformation. From an industry that was playing catch-up in digital transformation, food production and supply companies are now rapidly working towards turning this trend around.

Numerous big companies and startups are offering varied solutions for digital transformation all along the food production chain. From processing data, learning how nutrients activate metabolic pathways, to applying cameras and sensors to improve efficiency of carrot production. There are a torrent of approaches designed to utilise the power of artificial intelligence, data analytics, IOT, e-commerce and various other digital technologies to reform the way companies operate. Leveraging digital technologies to create or modify business processes, cultures, and customer experiences based on fast-changing market dynamics is at the heart of it.
